If you are located in the EU or UK, this section applies to you.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR require us to explain the valid legal bases we rely on in order to process your personal information. As such, we may rely on the following legal bases to process your personal information:

  • For identifying injured, ill, or deceased persons and communicating with next of kin
  • If we have reasonable grounds to believe an individual has been, is, or may be victim of financial abuse
  • If it is reasonable to expect collection and use with consent would compromise the availability or the accuracy of the information and the collection is reasonable for purposes related to investigating a breach of an agreement or a contravention of the laws of Canada or a province
  • If disclosure is required to comply with a subpoena, warrant, court order, or rules of the court relating to the production of records
  • If it was produced by an individual in the course of their employment, business, or profession and the collection is consistent with the purposes for which the information was produced

Rosterizer™ A roster builder for every game on your shelf

Faithful to your game, trivial data updates, use offline with or without an account.

No account needed. Log in later to sync across devices.

Rosterizer is a free universal roster builder for tabletop games. It imports and interprets game data files written and maintained by its community of users.

Built on rulebooks

Every game is described in one or more rulebooks: its units, their stats, and the rules that bind them. Pick one from the catalog or import one from a URL, and the builder is ready to go.

Rules that run

Points add up, limits hold, options unlock what they should. When a roster breaks a rule it says so, with descriptive error messages.

Any game, any scale

From a chess set to a two-thousand-point army: if it has a list of pieces and rules about them, it can be built with Rosterizer. Rulebooks are open data, and the catalog grows as players publish theirs.

Yours, offline

Everything works without a connection. Rosters and rulebooks live in your browser or application, and a roster exports as text or a file whenever you want it to.

Switching builders? Bring a list from anywhere.

Two simple paths get you started. Rebuilding an existing roster in Rosterizer is quick. Quicker still: clone a shared community roster and reshape it to suit your needs. Paid supporters can also experiment with an automatic importer that takes a best guess at your roster’s structure from almost anything you hand it (an export file, a pasted text list, even a screenshot from another app), and lets you review and adjust the result.

Data that’s faithful to the game; no shortcuts

Look forward to rosters that honor the game’s rules as written, with no shortcuts forced by the data format. Where other builders’ data might pin a squad’s weapon choices to the unit, here the weapon can stay assigned to the correct model. Your rosters can report the minute details crucial for campaign-focused games: resources, reserves, upgrades that touch a single model’s weapon… all tracked in the roster rather than a side spreadsheet.

The data structure that keeps rosters honest also helps maintain rulebooks; data files that are readable enough for a single maintainer to handle, and also capable of merging together contributions from a team of collaborators. Bulk import options (and scripts for paid supporters) means a fresh game can go from spreadsheet to playable in several minutes to a few hours, depending on its complexity and size: any game, including your opus or homebrew vision.

Rulebooks for games written by the people who play them; community rulebooks, hosted anywhere

Every rulebook in the catalog was written by volunteers who are fans of the game they maintain. When rules change, updates reach you when an author publishes, without having to wait for a new app release. Thus, data inconsistencies are trivial for the maintainer to hotfix when reported.

Rulebooks don’t have to live in our catalog, either. Link a custom web-hosted rulebook from any URL to your account; playtest groups and homebrew campaigns thrive on the flexibility this gives their sessions. Join our Discord for help getting started with authoring game data, or jump in and go nuts.

For now, rulebooks are authored on the legacy Rosterizer platform (the one used to write every rulebook currently in the catalog). Bringing that editor into this app is the first post-launch priority.

At the table; built for game night

A roster you can’t read mid-game is a roster you’ll stop using. Every list in Rosterizer can be read in multiple views: text, table, and directory… and the rules behind any entry are only a few taps deeper. With online-shareable rosters, when someone across the table asks “what does that unit do?”, the answer lives at their fingertips.

  • Live validationPoint costs and limits checked as you build
  • Offline, fullyCreate, edit, and reference with no network at all
  • Sync across devicesPick up on your phone where the desktop left off
  • Share with a link or QRAnyone can view, no account needed
  • On any platformPhone, tablet, or desktop; browser or installed

Using the list; nothing compromised on export

A roster isn’t finished until it’s somewhere useful, and what Rosterizer exports matches what you built; the squad that knows exactly which model carries which weapon reflects that precision of data in the export. Take your list out as formatted text for a forum post or an event pack, as a printable sheet, or send it straight into virtual tabletops (yes, including the one you’re thinking of).

Free, and ad-free. Forever.

Everything on your device is free and unlimited: build as many rosters as you like, for as many games as you like, with no account, no trial, and no ads. Ever†. You hate ads; we hate them more.

A free account samples a little of everything “online”: sync and share a roster (and its rulebook), put a few tags on community rosters, revisit your local viewing history. Becoming a Supporter removes the limits and adds history syncing across all your devices plus some experimental features… just a few dollars gets you started. Accounts never limit what’s on your device; they enhance what runs on our server. Subscriptions only pay for the features that cost money to run; the game data was never ours to sell.

† Relevant self and partner promotions may still show up unobtrusively from time to time but you’ll never have a random ad banner fouling your screen real estate.

From beta to v1, or, how we got here

Rosterizer began with a vision shared by some friends in a gaming group. It’s taken a long while and a lot of experimentation and elbow-grease to condense that vision into the application you’re looking at now. Rosterizer has traveled a path: from a bare-bones builder for an indie skirmish game; to the first release that ran “like a bag of dogs” as the saying goes; to the first major release with intentional design, planned user flow, and smooth architecture. It’s incredibly fulfilling to have been able to share the experience with such a wonderful audience, and humbling to have received the response you all provided.

To everyone who stress-tested the beta, reported the bugs, authored the data, and paid for an unfinished experience on faith: thank you; this version exists because of you. The beta taught us exactly where the old architecture fell short. Some of the issues we were able to fix at the time, and the rest became the blueprint for this rewrite. The result of that feedback is front-and-center here: Rosterizer’s builder now works fully offline, from the first selection to the last export.

To everyone who was critical of the performance and design flaws, who reached out with complaints and jokes about how terrible Rosterizer was for so long: thank you! Your feedback was also fantastically useful in pushing the product to be better and highlighting glaring problems with the user experience. And the memes you all produced to roast us were chef’s kiss! 🧑‍🍳

FAQ

Is Rosterizer free?

Yes. Everything done locally on your device is free and unlimited, no account required. A free account adds a little of everything online (sync and share a roster, tag community rosters), and you can become a Supporter, for only a few bucks, which removes the limits and adds extras like roster auto-import.

Do I need an account?

No. Rosters save to your device and stay there. Signing up later can sync them online and let you share; everything you built before logging in is brought into your account with you.

Which games does it support?

Any game somebody has written data for. Warhammer 40,000 is the most played today, alongside games like Gaslands and Reign in Hell, and the catalog grows whenever an author publishes. If your game isn’t there, link a rulebook from any URL, or write your own.

I used BattleScribe or another builder. Can I bring my lists?

Yes. Supporters get automatic import, which takes a best guess at your roster’s structure from almost anything (an export file, a pasted text list, even a screenshot) and lets you review the result. On the free side, cloning a community roster and reshaping it is often just as fast.

Does it work on a phone? Offline?

Yes and yes. Rosterizer runs in any browser and installs as an app on phones, tablets, and desktops, and everything (other than rulebook imports and cross-device syncing) works with no connection at all; changes sync next time you’re online.

Who writes the game data?

Volunteers, with support from dedicated players and community members. Anyone can help maintain data, either by using it and reporting defects, or by authoring it themselves: solo or with a team; alone or with help from other data authors in the community.

Where’s the rulebook editor?

For now, rulebooks are authored on the legacy Rosterizer platform (the one used to write every rulebook currently in the catalog). Bringing that editor into this app is the first post-launch priority.
